Help me give my students a sense of normalcy in these unimaginable times through the student experience that a document reader and a magnetic whiteboard, two vital classroom tools, can achieve.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As the intervention coordinator at my school, I work with students who are struggling in literacy from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I call them my "little college students" and scholars, helping to motivate them to overcome their obstacles. During these surreal times, we have been teaching in a virtual setting. But my students become excited to see me display a book on the screen to read and discuss or when I display my manipulatives or puppets that aid in the delivery of a reading lesson.
"Winning, learning, succeeding; let's soar"!
They are my little owls, and our school motto/mantra is repeated constantly to remind them of their potential and all of the possibilities. "I will be the first to join our Zoom group next time so I can choose the book we will read", they clamor. I, of course, nod in agreement and reply, “I will be on the lookout for you to see whose first.” Working with my struggling owls until they struggle no more, makes all of the work and effort totally worth it.
My Project
The Okiocam and magnetic whiteboard are excellent teaching tools that will facilitate the delivery of lessons to students in a virtual setting. I can use these tools to demonstrate to students while presenting to them through Zoom the breakdown of word parts, whether it’s through phonological or phonics components, both vital for the development of literacy skills.
These two resources will not only help teach students virtually, but they will continue to be relevant when we eventually transition to the ideal setting for teaching: the classroom.
A vast majority of students are visual learners. So it’s important for them to see what is being asked of them, what is being explained. These two items will help students to grasp concepts that may otherwise seem elusive or abstract.
