My classroom is full of vibrant, energetic, autistic, nonverbal students. Autism is a disorder that is characterized by difficulties in social interaction, verbal, and nonverbal communication, as well as repetitive or restricted behaviors. Every student in my classroom is a unique individual, each with his or her own strengths, challenges, and perspectives. My students bring a fresh and unique way of seeing the world. They are eager learners, passionate about their interests, and resilient in the face of challenges. With the right tools and support, my students can achieve anything they set their minds to.
Technology is an integral part of our everyday lives, especially in classrooms with autistic, nonverbal students.
A new iPad with a wide screen will help students build skills, improve vocabulary, experience the world beyond their classroom, solve problems, and learn literacy and math skills. Students would benefit from this tool as it enhances their communication, sensory, social, emotional, processing and developmental skills. This resource would assist with authentic assessments as their learning and successes are captured and uploaded. An iPad would make this process faster, easier, and more accessible for all.
