My students need an easel to accommodate small groups; a rug to allow movement from desks; and a subscription to TIME for Kids magazine to give them real life comprehension practice.
By the end of this year, I would love for my students to be able to be able to learn the best way they can and be able to focus. My biggest challenge with this is not having enough areas for them to move to. All of these items will greatly help them reach their full potential.
I have an awesome VE class of 4th and 5th graders.
They all bring something creative and amazing to our class! With all different learning levels, needs, and severe behavioral issues, we do a lot of small group work to reach each student. Having the right resource to teach each one of them is crucial to their learning. They all struggle with attention span and require a lot of movement to different areas to stay focused and be able to grow their brains!
In our class, we turn everything into real life situations and experiences, things they will utilize to function on a day-to-day basis. Due to the disabilities of my students, they have to work harder than most students just to get by. They all try their best even on bad days and we try to keep a positive encouraging environment! Our class name is A.'s All-stars because we work as a team every single day.
My Project
I envision the easel, carpet, and magazines being used every single day. The easel will be used for small groups that are not right next to the board. It will also allow the class to make student made posters to use as resources to aid in their learning. It can also allow the students to move and come up to the easel to move objects or write answers. The carpet would be used for read aloud and cooperative learning. The students will have a comfortable place to sit while keeping personal space. They love sitting on the floor in a group to learn and hear stories. It will allow them to partner up and discuss a question and share with the rest of the group. The Time for Kids magazines will enhance their comprehension skills by reading high interest articles. They will learn to analyze texts and pull out important details. It will allow them to learn multiple skills all in one resource. They all struggle with reading and comprehension and this will get them to enjoy what they read.
With the help of your donation my class will be able to have the resources they need to control their behaviors and allow them to learn in a more interactive, interesting, fun way.
This will give them the tools they need to be more productive in school and for the rest of their lives. It will change them forever. It's little things that they need to become more positive, productive citizens.
