Arts, Crafts, Puzzles, STEM Activities Focusing on Fine Motor Skills!

My Students

All students are diverse and energetic 5 and 6 year olds in a southern Arizona Title I STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) school.

And 99% of our students qualify to receive free lunch.

Most are English Language Learners, including refugees from Africa, Asia, Mexico and the Middle East. All coming from low-income households. School is often the first place my students are exposed to literacy, math and STEAM activities in English. They come from homes where education is often not a priority, making the initial readiness gap wider. They strive to do their best against the odds and are always excited to come to school and learn.

My Project

This project is my dream! In addition to teaching the core curriculum, I want to spark student creativity through art and tactile projects where students can explore, create, and problem solve. I am requesting crafts and games so my students can practice their fine motor skills!

Students can WORK independently on jumbo floor puzzles; CREATE masterpieces with STEM Magnetic Tile Blocks; ENGINEER art projects with jumbo craft sticks and decorate with poms, beads and buttons.

Students can use jumbo tweezers to practice picking up small objects, create pictures on a Light Bright board, and PLAY the board game, Sorry with a classmate. Oh, these activities bring back fond memories!

My project focuses on student hand-eye coordination, pincher grip skills, social emotional skills and student imagination.

I've also requested storage containers to keep these items organized and protected for my future students.
