I teach second grade at an amazing school near Saguaro National Park in Arizona. My students are creative, passionate and energetic with parents who support their learning on a daily basis.
We are a low-income school in a rural area and I want to make sure my students are given the opportunity to express themselves creatively, especially since our school does not offer any visual arts programs.
Many of the families at our school may not have the money to offer their children access to different art supplies so I want to make sure I have these in my room so they can explore creatively.
My Project
With these materials, we will try different types of art projects. We will explore art based on books by authors such as Leo Lionni with a watercolor and oil pastel chameleon, paint paper to use for future collage projects and experiment with color by mixing paint. Additionally, this will give us the opportunity to learn about artists such as Frida and Klee and experiment with recreating their type of art.
These materials will give my students the opportunity to explore their creative sides; an opportunity they might not otherwise be afforded.
All children should be able to paint, draw, and create.
