This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from urban areas of Oklahoma City, and they are some of the most creative minds you could come across. My art and drawing class curriculums are not only built around educational standards but also various ways to accommodate and challenge these little artists of mine who always rise to the occasion. Though my students may be energetic, timid, outspoken, or reserved, these amazing artists create works of art to express themselves in ways they may not get the opportunities to in other class subjects. My students are ready to grow from new teachings, applied strategies, and experimentation for new discoveries. They really are a joy to behold.
My Project
These items will aid the classroom by offering application practices of drawing, transferring, carving, and printmaking skills learned in art class. Students will be able to use learned techniques to craft stamps that they will personalize with unique designs. The stamps will then be used for lessons in ink mixing and application for personal use. Stamp design is a big part of printmaking which introduces students to the world of graphic design and advertising. The design theme of the assignment is to create an original logo/symbol representing a specific social group the student associates with. The stamps can be used to label items the student deems "approved," by their personal expertise, as an appropriate representation of their social group. Lastly and most importantly, creating stamps is incredibly fun!
