I get the amazing opportunity of helping our Middle School Special Education Distinct class put together an art show. They get to exhibit their art through MOSA (Museum of Special Art) and at our school for a school-wide project night. If you are unfamiliar with the Distinct program, this is a group of students that are highly impacted by their disability and have significant modifications to their education. As you can imagine, this group is quite far from educational justice. This is an outstanding opportunity to showcase them. With me, they have made art in the styles of Pierce Milholland (pictures made with numerous little dots), George Tsutakawa (fountains made out of ceramic and hopefully the water pumps in this donation), Dale Chihuly (glass like light sculpture), Paul Horiuchi (a mixed media piece), Guy Anderson (painting), Picasso (3 dimensional painting), and Robert Romero (Sculpture). Your donation will provide frames to display the pictures and paintings, the mechanics to make the fountains flow, lights for the Chihuly light sculptures, and a faux brick wall to make a gallery to properly display their work.
They are so enthusiastic, so eager to try, and so creative.
My school is an inner-city STEM school in Seattle that represents a variety of cultures. We have students who speak multiple languages and who have varying levels of financial need. Our school is deliciously diverse and a delight to be a part of.
