Art is not offered as part of the curriculum at the STEM Early High School, hence I want to provide students with the opportunity to explore and create various types of art and crafts by establishing an Art Club.
Students at the STEM Early High School are talented, creative and have true passion for learning.
The school is a a small one with a diverse population and students generally relate to each other with the kind of familiarity usually shared among family members or relatives. They are generally in school from 7:30 am - 3:00 pm each day engaging in various academic tasks. Extra-curricular activities are not offered, as students share the building with a high school, and often times there are scheduling clashes. It is also difficult as the two groups of students (from the middle and high school) must be kept separate at all times. Students are desperately in need of an outlet for expression and the Art Club will go a long way in helping them further develop or unearth latent creative talents.
I want to help students understand that art have a significant impact on daily life, as it helps us to comprehend how various individuals view and interact with the world around them. It is also a means of understanding various cultures and developing tolerance for the unfamiliar. This is essential as there are several cultures and nationalities represented within the school. It is my vision that the Art Club will help students become more understanding and tolerant of each other, as they work together to create art. I wish to acquire paint, paint brushes, colored pencils, drawing paper, wood chips, a digital camera to capture images of the art we create and to explore photography as an art form, and various other art and craft supplies. These materials will also be used to facilitate the exploration of various aspects of fine art, visual art,and applied art. Students' designs and creations will be displayed in the school's administrative offices and classrooms.
My project will make a difference by enabling students to develop patience, tolerance, endurance and confidence as they work as a team to see each project through to its completion.
