My Students
We are an incredible group of 9-12 graders in a high needs Autism classroom. We have a variety of skills and talents and love to learn new things. Sometimes people think because we have Autism we shouldn't be pushed to learn difficult things. We want to learn new things!
We think we are really special since we come from many different backgrounds and cultures. Autism is part of who we are but it doesn't define us. We love who we are!
My Project
During these uncertain times, our kids need to continue to be creative and learn different ways to handle stress. Art has been a perfect outlet for our students within the high needs ASD program.
Our students within the High Needs ASD program are being taught all subject areas within our program. In our school district only our students with significant needs will be coming to school so it is important for us to not only be teaching academic areas but also handle the electives. Art is extremely important for our students. They will learn the history of art and create some wonderful pieces of art with the materials we hope to get. They will also be able to use art as a way to manage stress and anxiety.
I have chosen materials from several different areas. We will be able to paint, draw, create 3 dimensional projects using clay and mosaics, and also experiment with alcohol inks. All these materials will enable our students to experiment and learn about the wonderful world of art!
