Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, resilient, artistic and unique! This will be my fourth year teaching at the Title 1 school in a very impoverished neighborhood. I have been teaching for over 30 years in various places in the world and by far these kids have stolen my heart. My goal has always been to provide a learning environment that promotes kindness, community and safety. I typically teach 32 fifth or sixth-grade students each year until just a few months ago when I landed my dream job of becoming their art teacher! Now I teach all 18 classes. I am thrilled to have the privilege to provide art history and the joy of creativity, as well the therapeutic benefits of expressing themselves thru hands-on projects. Our school of almost 500 kids is, unfortunately, heading back home for distance learning. My goal is to keep them engaged and excited about creating art until they can return again. I need to provide art supplies in a kit so that they have what they need to create! I want my students to continue expressing themselves and learning about the great artists of the world- they deserve it!
My Project
I need to provide art kits for each student. The kits need to have all their art supplies in one place.
These supplies will be used with lessons that incorporate the joy of creativity as well as the therapeutic benefits of expressing themselves thru hands-on projects.
I will also teach about the great artists of the world and want them to be able to create in the style of the artists they learn about.
