Art Supplies Needed for Creative Students!

My students need a set of art supplies, including oil pastels, water color paints and paper, and art drawing pens to add a creative and critical thinking activity to their day.

My Students

Oh what a decade it has been for education, with so much emphasis on multiple choice state testing. But I see such a yearning in my 5th grade gifted students to do so much more, especially in the area of creative arts projects, which have been sorely missing from their elementary education.

I have the most wonderful group of students - gifted and talented fifth graders - who need more than the regular education program can provide.

Not only do they need higher level academics, but they also need enrichment activities such as art. My school is in a low income area where every student is on free or reduced price lunch, and we have not been able to fund many enrichment opportunities for our students.

My Project

I have requested oil pastels, water color paints and paper, and art drawing pens. We do not have any of these supplies as part of our regular stock. With the art supplies requested, I will be able to teach art lessons based on classic artists such as Van Gogh and Monet, and my students will have an opportunity to practice with hands-on arts activities. I believe that these experiences will make a lasting impact on my students and improve confidence and critical thinking. Students light up when they have a chance to draw and paint, and I especially see the benefits of using watercolors because of the complexity involved with blending colors, loading the brush, and using the correct amount of water.

Why is this project important?

Because art is everlasting. As the world changes and grows the one thing that has always stood the test of time is art. My students need to see beyond technology to this other aspect of our world.
