My Project

Students develop and create their own original fine art pieces throughout the school year; they learn new techniques and expand on their current art-making skills and abilities using a variety of drawing and painting media and styles. In addition to developing and creating fine art pieces throughout the school year, students complete weekly sketching activities that focus on understanding and using content-specific vocabulary or specific techniques for a variety of media. Students also participate in biweekly sharing of their art pieces in progress, monthly sharing of sketches, and formal self and peer critiques. Their original art pieces, sketches, and formal critiques specifically benefit students' academic learning in regard to their understanding and abilities in the following areas: key vocabulary, using a wide range of drawing and painting techniques, different art styles, different art types, using a variety of media, originality/creativity, and compositional development skills. Their artwork and sketches also benefit their social-emotional skills because after a whole class gallery walk of the artwork in progress and weekly sketching tasks, students meet with different peers every other week to share and get feedback for their artwork in progress and their sketching tasks. Supplies that are in need for making these fine art pieces and sketches are markers, oil pastels, and drawing pens.
