My students need markers, colored pencils, crayons, construction paper, colored paper, self-stick pads and file folders to add art to the Earth science curriculum.
Drawing, coloring and creating is necessary in Earth science. I feel it is important to include art to help my students learn parts of the curriculum and retain this knowledge for the tests. Sometimes coloring and drawing is necessary for a good education.
I teach Earth Science to energetic, hard-working freshmen.
My class is one my students must pass in order to graduate. I want my students to look forward to their science class so I include various activities to help them be more involved in their class. Budgets are limited and can only go so far when purchasing items for the entire school. I want to provide various art activities to add interest and help my students learn the material we are covering. Keeping the class fun and active allows my students to take more control over their education.
My Project
The colored paper will be used to create brochures so that my students can show how much they know about a subject we have covered. The construction paper will be used for creating a replica of the cycles of the moon and for creating posters. The self-stick note pads will be used to create an example of sea floor spreading so my students can see how paleomagnetism works. The file folders will be used to draw a science picture that represents their interests and be kept to file test papers for the semester. Drawing the star cycle helps students remember the sequence of the events. Creating a brochure on weather helps students remember the difference between the various weather elements. Making a poster about safety issues in science helps my students evaluate the different issues and understand why they are important. The classroom set of markers, colored pencils and crayons will be used to help my students create for their science class.
When students create in the classroom they are dealing with the information and evaluating it more effectively.
They take this information and uniquely make it their own. By incorporating this into the lessons, my students will learn more of the curriculum. I hope you see the potential of this project on the education of my students.
