Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Our nation’s schools are full of students who possess a desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard, but many of them do not truly have the opportunity to be college-ready. These are often the students who will be the first in their families to attend college and are from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education."
In the AVID elective, students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in their college-prep courses.
AVID places students in rigorous courses and offers the support in the AVID elective to ensure success.
My Project
My students in the AVID elective are trained to be leaders. They are given leadership opportunities that include: representing a club/organization throughout campus and parent nights, helping recruit students for the following school year, helping set-up school wide events througout campus, and much more. Essentially they are a group of students that are involved heavily throughout campus.
We do not have the materials to create posters to promote events/activities throughout campus.
Many of these materials can also be used in class for projects as well! With recruitment season around the corner, we currently need materials to create posters. My students need paints and brushes to create these posters. We need storage crates to store items while they are not in use. We especially need splash mats to protect the carpet in the classroom when projects are in the making. We also need moon sand to hold down posters outside while they dry!
