They prepared host plants, monitored conditions, and learned how small changes affect living organisms. Many of my students struggle with literacy, so giving them a chance to see and touch the evidence behind food‑web relationships made the learning accessible. As they sorted bones, identified structures, and rebuilt the skeletons, they weren't just completing a task — they were acting like scientists. Students who are often quiet or hesitant became fully absorbed, comparing skull shapes, matching vertebrae, and debating which prey species their owl had eaten. The room was buzzing with curiosity.\r\n\r\nLater in the month, students explored chemical reactions using Alka‑Seltzer tablets, water, and paint. They added half a tablet to small canisters filled with paint and watched them launch across a large sheet of paper. The \"explosions\" created vibrant abstract paintings, but more importantly, they helped students see gas production and pressure buildup in real time. Even students who are frequently absent or disengaged were excited to participate — they counted down together, predicted reaction speeds, and ran to examine the patterns left behind. This activity blended art and science in a way that made chemistry feel joyful and memorable.\r\n\r\nThese materials allowed my students to experience science as something active, creative, and worth showing up for. Before we had a full set of working headphones, this was a constant struggle. Students would share earbuds that barely worked, sound would bleed across the room and distract their neighbors, and some students simply could not hear the instruction clearly enough to benefit from it. Your donation solved that problem overnight. Now every student can put on a pair of headphones, block out the noise of a busy classroom, and hear their lesson clearly from start to finish. It sounds like a small thing, but for a student who struggles to filter out distractions, it is the difference between a lesson that sinks in and one that passes them by.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting to my students is simply how much more independent they feel.
