My Students

How would you feel if the only student work hanging in the classroom was black and white worksheets? Well, this is the struggle my students face because I do not have access to colorful art supplies, nor do they have the money to provide them themselves.

My students are hard workers.

Living in Oklahoma, they are very much feeling that 49th is not OK. Our school struggles to provide them with supplies they need to be as successful as they could be. My students are years behind where they should be, and often feel frustrated in school. But they are excited to learn. And as I said, they work hard to learn. I like providing more hands on opportunities for them to feel success. They appreciate labs, poster making and interactive - hands on learning.

My Project

My students are very artistic. They love creating and conceptualizing what we learn. To help relate the concepts like force, Newton's Laws, phase changes and atoms, I like to have my students make creative posters. These get posted around my room and serve as a constant reminder as to what we are learning. I often refer to their hanging work during class lectures. Having their posters around also reinforces that they do know the concepts. However, I often only have some pencils to work with. This does not provide the eye-catching and exciting posters that make them feel proud and successful. My students need crayons, colored pencils and markers.

I can only afford to buy art supplies one measly box at a time.

With all 200 of my students using the same markers, crayons or colored pencils every hour, all day, they often break, or become unusable and dry. If I had a larger supply, they would last longer, and one project wouldn't exhaust my supplies from overuse.
