This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My vivacious, creative, and affable students are from a high needs/high poverty public elementary school in New York City. They love art and are very grateful that our school offers a visual arts education program that understands the impact art has on their development.
Since it's a high needs school, our budget can't support the needs of our art studio and our emerging Picassos!
We need your help to get our projects rolling! Since our students haven't had an abundance of experience with painting, water soluble oil pastels are the perfect springboard for them to get their ideas and views flowing!
My Project
I've been searching for a versatile material that the students can really be expressive with an have confidence in their control of a painting medium at the same time. Water soluble oil pastels are the perfect medium to accomplish that! They allow for color mixing and give the student an opportunity to be more purposeful and expressive at the same time. They serve as oil pastels and can turn into paint when water is added!
I'm looking forward to using this great material with our upper grades to create Georgie O'Keefe inspired rainforest animals and flowers.
It's a difficult project to do with just paint and this material will really give our children the tools they need to complete the project successfully. With the younger grades I'm looking forward to introducing color mixing and creating paintings of our neighborhood!
