Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I enjoy working with students from a Title I charter school that promotes innovative, forward thinking, while cultivating positive mindsets that result in empowered learners eager to take their next adventurous, educational step forward. My instruction aims to support all learners such as those with special needs, ADHD, ASD, ODD, LD, EL, and those gifted/talented.
The core of my educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that classroom environments must be innovative, creative, and unpredictable with the purpose of capturing student focus and interest.
Students must come to school thinking, "What is Mr. D. going to do today?" I must go home thinking, "How can I make my learning environment the most dynamic destination in the world?" I must enter the classroom executing "best practices coupled with focused instruction delivered on creativity." This is my goal, every day, every week, every year.
My Project
This project is to increase access to art and social emotional learning opportunities. Art supplies that are different and novel will help students in a calming, soothing art station.
Today's student are stressed in ways we can't imagine.
This project is for an actual art station including the space, furniture, and art supplies. Each week we write, edit, type, and add art but we lack a place to work, organize, and basic supplies such as a colored markers that aren't dried. This station will engage even those students- reluctant to attempt adding and enhancing their writing through art. This station will also provide my students with a calming space in which they can gather their emotions or release them through art.
