This academic year I experimented with unconventional seating in the classroom. When students and families entered the classroom for "meet the teacher" I spent some of the time encouraging students to bring an exercise ball to class the next day to replace the conventional chair. The next day eight students showed up with a ball. I knew I was on to something. However, since I teach at a Title 1 school I knew some of the students that wanted access to the ball came from families that couldn't afford it. Therefore, I purchased four other balls to be used at our computer station by our classroom community. All of the students reported enjoying the ball. As my focus closes on this academic year and starts to gaze to next year I would like to provide each student the opportunity of an exercise ball for their student chair.
