Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The purpose of the Social Emotional Learning (SEL)/Resiliency based art therapy groups is to provide students with an educational and enjoyable therapeutic art experience, which can improve their self-esteem, increase insight and judgment, assist with coping better with stress, assist with working through traumatic experiences, and help facilitate better relationships with family, teachers, and friends. I believe that using art therapy in schools can help make education a positive and rewarding experience. It can also help students to focus on learning by providing a visual and verbal approach to addressing student needs.

During Art& Soul, students work on customized art projects and participate in activities that build resilience, problem-solving skills, and self-awareness.

While there are regularly scheduled lesson plans, the group remains flexible to allow for working on projects that may arise. The group size is limited to ensure maximum facilitation and open communication.
