This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love hands-on learning. They thrive when they are able to apply what they have learned in French to tangible projects. Whether it's making a replica of a Parisian monument or producing the ideal house and labeling it in French, they do their best work when their creativity shines.
My students are enthusiastic, hard-working, and eager to learn.
Many of them come from low-income homes, but all of them are committed to their education. Over 90% of our students have plans to attend a post-secondary institution, and many of them plan to major in the fields of Architecture, Construction, or Engineering.
My Project
Each unit that we do culminates in a project. My students recreate monuments using the skills that they have learned in Drafting class. They create towns using grids and precise measurements, and dream up their ideal homes using the tools taught to them in Architecture. And how does French fit into this? They label their "chef d'oeuvres" in the language that they are learning and present their final projects to practice their spoken French. Are they perfect? Non. Are they learning? Oui!
My students need art supplies like poster boards and markers in order to create these incredible thematic projects.
I love seeing the unique ways that my students apply what we've learned in class to the techniques that they have learned in other courses.
As much as I love seeing their creativity, supplying the materials needed for these tasks takes a toll on my wallet! Having these materials will ensure that such projects are able to continue happening well into the future.
