My 3rd-5th grade elementary art students have such an exciting of mix of interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students have never attended a formal art class, and some have been expressing themselves as artists for years.
No matter what their ability when they come into my class, my students all approach their artwork with unmatched gusto.
I teach visual art at a Title One global school that serves around 500 students each year. I have the privilege to teach the entire school, pre-k through fifth grade including multiple special needs classes. My students see me on average about once a week. My classroom is about developing art skills, learning about art careers, and experiencing new art materials and techniques.
My Project
This tablet and the accompanying technology materials will be used to allow my students to create and curate their own art portfolios through the Artsonia app. Students will use the tablet to keep a visual record of their artwork which can be accessed even after they leave elementary school. Students will also be able to leave feedback for their classmates, and receive feedback as well. Parents will also have the chance to view their student's artwork once photos are uploaded. I will create a portfolio station in my classroom, where students can photograph and upload their own artwork to the app. This will allow students to become more engaged and take more ownership for their artwork. The under cabinet lighting system will allow students to take well-lit quality photos. The screen protector, tablet case, and laptop bag will ensure that these resources will be kept safe when not in use, and that these materials will be available for students to use for years to come.
