Art Lessons for the Underprivileged

My students need art supplies, including paint brushes, paint, yarn, beads and color pencils.

My Students

Do you remember painting and doing art projects when you were in school? Our students are required to take an art test at the end of the year, but our school can not afford an art teacher, and we are not given art supplies.

The students in my Oklahoma school come from a high poverty area.

Many come from broken homes, and most require free and reduced lunches. They crave attention and they love new experiences, which is why I want them to experience art in the classroom.

My Project

I have carefully planned for art lessons to coincide with our reading curriculum, to enhance what we learn. We will be painting with watercolors and tempera paint, coloring with colored pencils and oil based sticks, weaving,and making beaded jewelry. We will learn about famous artists, and we will learn a variety of art techniques.

If my children are required to test in art, shouldn't I give them the opportunity to experience it?

Please help me teach these children in an exciting new way to them, and help me to give them new experiences that they will not have anywhere else.
