Art is Elementary with the Elements of Art!

My students need art reproductions and the Art Lingo game to help further emphasize the use and importance of the Elements of Art in all artwork including our own!

My Students

My Students begin by building a knowledge of the elements of art in Kindergarten on the first day learning about dots. We move on to lines and so on as the children continue learning about other tools and techniques each year. My second graders focus on how the Elements of art are use in art making.

My Students are always eager to learn about new art techniques and styles.

They will often surprise me with insightful questions they ask, and great observations they make about the artist, artwork or art style we are studying. We are fortunate to live in an area where it is quite easy to get to museums and sculpture gardens. Our district places a high value on the arts and the important roll they play in our students education.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will help benefit all of my students however with my second graders I focus on the Elements of art and how they are used to make artwork. We not only discuss the elements we see in artwork but we also write about the elements of art in our own artwork and the artwork of others. The reproductions will help the children with independent work to allow them to experience a wide variety of Art Styles and Subjects. The art lingo game will be a fun way of reinforcing the use of the elements of art in an unexpected way. The Elements of Art desk cards will be a useful tool they can have by their side to refer to as needed. All of these tools will help my students become Art Smart when they are writing or speaking about art!

The art reproductions will enable me to let the students see a wide variety of art styles up close.

This will allow them to see all of the details that get lost when I show them small images in a book or try to find images large enough to show them on the computer. The smaller reproductions are the prefect size to allow the students to interact one on one with the artwork and see what they can discover about it for themselves. I want them to get lost in the artwork and make personal connections.
