I teach at a Title I school that is located in a rural community. My school is a small pre-kindergarten through 5th grade public school with about 330 students. Approximately 70% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. The small size of my school really enables me to get to know my students and their families.
My school is great because of the wonderful community that it is located in!
We have great parental support and participation in our school activities.
My Project
These art supplies will be available for our Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students. The art mediums that have been requested are mediums that are not typically utilized in the regular classroom setting. The art supplies would be available for teachers to use at their convenience. This would enable teachers to expose students to a variety of art mediums such as pastel chalks and acrylic paints.
Providing our students with access to these art mediums will help our students voice their creativity.
In addition to the creative outlet these supplies will provide, they will also enhance our students social and academic growth. Research has shown that exposure to visual arts instruction can help build confidence, promote critical thinking skills, and increase student achievement and success. Additionally, arts instruction can also promote non-verbal communication skills and accelerate the learning of children who are not yet fluent in English. This is especially important for our English Learners.
