I am a fourth year teacher, still learning each year and excited to be teaching. My 7th-12th grade students have a range of abilities, talent and personalities. I teach in a rural school which reaches children in high level poverty where 96% receive free or reduced lunch. Despite the obstacles, our school has continued to improve on Average Yearly Progress as well as provide support to our High School Graduates in attending Post-Secondary Schools. Most notably our school has won the Prestigious Blue Ribbon award and is also a Red Carpet Award school.

My challenge is to provide every opportunity I can for our students to learn in and through the arts. I want my students to become creative thinkers and problem solvers. Although we receive some funds from the state and the district, BOTH have had major budget cuts affecting this school year. The art department needs some basic supplies to build, create and enforce a positive learning environment and provide art experiences for all children.

I request funding to support a fun, new lesson which needs moving clock parts. This is a lesson I participated in during a professional development opportunity and I had so much fun with it myself I knew it would be something to inspire my students. This lesson also provides a great teaching moment where students see how art meets life. My classes need 40 clock movements sets and 25 clock faces to create and complete this creative and interesting lesson.

With your generosity and assistance I can help drive home the idea that art is everywhere. The area my students come from often makes it hard for them to see the relevance and application of art in their lives. This lesson will allow us the opportunity to practice art as function and leave them with a long lasting reminder that art is both beautiful and applicable in their lives. My students and I thank you in advance for any and all help you can give!
