My Project

I work at an alternative school, teaching reading. The students do not get any art classes. Many are very creative. Art is a very calming outlet for them and a way they can express themselves. Some of them are very creative and this is a way to show their creativity that may not be seen in regular day-to-day school work.

I have structured the class to allow the students to complete their work in 4 days, leaving Fridays as a day for creativity.

This is also a way to motivate them to complete work.

I have a limited amount of supplies and want to add different types of art mediums for the students. So far I have had them coloring and using Play-Doh, some for the first time. Adding the modeling clay and painting is something they have asked for. I think they will enjoy the origami and it would appeal to the students who are not interested in getting their hands messy. I have a few students who sketch so the sketch pads will come in very useful.

These students do not have the funds at home and are working through some difficult times. I will continue to add different mediums and hopefully spark an interest in art.
