Art Class: More than Projects-Creative Masterminds at Work!
Help me give my students the art supplies they need to express themselves through the creative process to become better problem solvers, critical thinkers, decision makers, risk takers and to improve their social and fine motor skills.
My students have experienced so many benefits through the many projects we have created on the limited supplies my mostly low-income school district can afford. I teach over 450 students every week and the budget for materials is sadly less than $2.25 per student for the entire year. I am excited to continue a creative visual arts program with the required supplies. Please understand art class provides so much more than just the project! The process is the real game-changer!
Arts integration is so important for so many reasons:
Working in the arts helps learners to develop creative problem-solving skills. Art instruction helps children with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness.
Visual arts teach learners about color, layout, perspective, and balance: all techniques that are necessary in presentations (visual, digital) of academic work.
Arts experiences boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world.
The arts provide challenges for learners at all levels.
Art education connects students with their own culture as well as with the wider world.
A report by Americans for the Arts states that young people who participate regularly in the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, to participate in a math and science fair, or to win an award for writing an essay or poem than children who do not participate.
A study of Missouri public schools found that greater arts education led to fewer disciplinary infractions and higher attendance, graduation rates, and test scores.
Thank you for helping each young mind grow in a very creative way!
