Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are located in the Montbello community, is a proud Denver Public School, serving an ECE-7th grades. Our student population includes 96% FRL, 97% minority, 73% English Language Learners, and 9% special education students. Our demographics also included 78% Hispanic students, 13% African American, 4% White, and 3% who identify as other ethnic backgrounds. Additionally, our school is identified as one of the “20 Top Priority Schools” in Denver Public Schools, a list based on high student body rates for FRL, mobility, poverty, etc.

Our artists are learning creative critical thinking skills by creating student lead artistic explorations inspired by the way contemporary artists work today!

Artists explore the world much like scientists do and at our school we have been working to transform wonders into artworks using an investigatory approach.

My Project

Children learn a great deal through the auditory system. Many students are auditory learners which means they learn best when information is presented to them verbally. However, research over the last decade has shown that kids farthest from the teacher can miss up to 40% of what’s being said. Even in the art studio at least 45% of the class day requires listening. In other words, We use kids’ ears as a pathway to their brains, especially in the lower grades where children are gaining basic skills!

By ensuring the teacher’s voice sounds clear no matter where students sit or uncontrollable background noise this microphone system will help more students learn at our school.

It is shown that poor acoustics in the classroom can be improved through the use of classroom amplification systems and we are looking for an improvement.
