Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves a high number of socially and economically disadvantaged students. Most of my students qualify for free lunch in school. My fifth-grade class is very diverse in their academics. They range from far below basic to advanced levels. Some are students with special needs and accommodations and others are students who need enrichment. Some are English language learners while others are fluent in the English language. But they are all eager for education; however, the lack of resources prevents them from getting motivated and truly showcasing their talents.
Many of my students have a variety of hardships at home, but at school, I try to make it a positive place where they can grow, learn, and be successful.
They come to school with big dreams, and I want to provide the best learning environment for them.
My Project
Students will use art supplies to learn about different artists around our world. They will learn about their history and practice basic artistic techniques and styles to replicate that of the artist learned. The sketch pad and construction paper will be their space to create their masterpieces. For example, the oil pastels and markers will be used to replicate Andy Warhol's silkscreen printing to recreate similar images that are popular and/or common in society. His style in the use of bright colors makes the art pieces fun and eye-catching.
There are many great artists in the world, it's time we teach our students to appreciate and learn from them.
