Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our urban, minority community are taught to believe that they can only succeed at certain sports or have certain skills. Many people feel that archery is only for hunting, or for students in rural areas. This is not the case anymore. Archery has taught me to be more patient, increase my ability to focus and concentrate, and remain physically, emotionally, and spiritually calm.
I want to bring my love of Archery to my students.
My students had the opportunity to try Archery for one day; they loved it! They saw how calming the sport can be. A necessary need any student has in an impoverished community such as our own.
My Project
I am a certified NASP coach and I want our growing school to have the opportunity to participate in various sports. With the funds provided, I will be able to begin an Archery program at our school. I will teach students the skills necessary to be a competitive archer.
Students who participate in Archery learn the benefits of slowing down, taking aim, and concentrating on their objective of hitting the target; just like in real life.
The skills achieved from archery have helped students improve in problem solving skills, and interpersonal skills.
However, what's the best benefit of Archery? Nearly all students, regardless of athletic ability or socioeconomic level, can participate!
