Help me give my students Raspberry Pis, HDMI cables/connectors, and arcade buttons so that they can create their student-designed arcade machines! They will also be utilizing several connectors, converters, power sources, and other circuits in their designs.
Every day in my class students collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects. By the end of the school year, I want my students to be able to collaborate effectively with their peers and be able to take their knowledge into the real world and apply it.
My students come from all over the city of Houston and from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and educational experiences.
All of my classes contain a variety of students at many different levels. I have students with special needs and learning disabilities in every class as well as gifted and talented students. Because of the variety of cultures, incomes, and educational experiences, my classes are extremely diverse and makes for rich discussions and socializing opportunities.
Our high school is a STEM, magnet school where students are chosen through a lottery system. The mode of instruction at our school is project-based learning. I have the privilege of receiving students their first year and get to help them figure out how they can positively contribute their unique abilities to our already thriving school culture. There can be challenges with so many disadvantaged students, but the rewards outweigh the challenges.
My Project
The arcade materials for this project such as joysticks, buttons, cables, and wires are for student-designed arcade machines that they are building in their Principles of Manufacturing classes.
The students have taken full ownership of the project management cycle and engineering design process in order to manage and design their projects from start to finish through strong collaboration efforts and peer to peer feedback.
Student-groups are working not only on the physical build of these projects, but are also responsible for researching and designing their products, marketing and testing their products, engaging the community, fundraising for their materials, and promoting their exhibition where they will present their final products.
