My students come from all over the city of Houston and from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and educational experiences. I have special needs students students with physical and/or learning disabilities and also gifted and talented students in every class. Because of the variety of cultures, incomes, and educational experiences, my classes are extremely diverse and makes for rich discussions and socializing opportunities while they learn together in this STEM PBL environment where kids apply and are chosen through a lottery system. I have the wonderful opportunity of getting to teach the kids their very first year (9th grade) at Energy and get to help them figure out who they are and how they can positively contribute their unique abilities and talents to our already thriving school culture. There are challenges, of course, but they are equally if not more rewarding.
