My students need to experience aquaponics first hand and understand all the benefits to aquaponics such as using less energy, less pesticide use, plants grow twice as fast and also how one system helps another simultaneously.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At my school, my students walk into our classroom ready to learn and are excited to experience new challenges. I am passionate about math and science and want to give my students every opportunity to experience math and science through real world experiences.
I teach at a South Florida school in Hialeah who has a large ELL population.
Most students come from low income homes and many have just arrived to this country. Sparking their love for Math and Science will hopefully encourage my students to try hard and always keep learning despite any challenges they may face.
My Project
Being a newly STEM magnet school this project will ignite my students passion for science and all the beneficial elements they can create just by simply using aquaponics. This project will give my students first hand experience in aquaponics that will hopefully lead to larger scale aquaponics systems in the future.
My students will help set up the aquaponics system and will be in charge of checking the system, as well as the plants and fish and keeping the aquaponics system running smoothly.
The students will journal about the aquaponics system and be able to study and experiment different plants they can grow within the aquaponics sytem.
