This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a urban public school on the shores of the Los Angeles River.

We like to get outside and plant and care for our campus.

We are always interested in where our food comes from. The majority of our student are on free/reduced priced lunch, many are first generation to apply to college.

My Project

We have a good aquarium with fish and now we would like to grow herbs with the nutrient rich water. I also would like to allow the students to design their own systems using 5 gallon water bottles and these pumps and aerators. The herbs will be chosen to grow well in dim light and in a short period of time. Students will care for the system daily including water quality testing. We have experimented with eco-columns and we have a worm bin. We have looked at drinking water quality.
