This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
According to research, "Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills."
Unfortunately, due to the mandated academic rigor in language arts and math emphasis, Art is a subject that has been pushed to the wayside.
This year, I have a class, consisting of 29 third graders who are both energetic and inquisitive!
They are the reason I jump out of bed every morning because of their positive energy and their willingness to learn. They're always ready to soak up information that is presented to them.
My school is located in the heart of downtown, where 100% of the students qualify for free federal meal program. Many arrive to school at 7:00 am and wait outside for the school to open. Still many others stay after school until 6:00 pm. Our school is their home away from home.
My Project
Inspired by the Lily Grace Sarah Foundation, I would envision to give my students an opportunity to experience and embrace art just like the girls did. Before we visit the Getty Villa in February, I'd like to expose and emerge my students with visual arts pieces that are essential to grade level. With the support of the resources provided by the Getty Museum, I'd teach the visual arts principles and the composition of landscape paintings. In order to achieve the objectives in its completion, my students need some paint supplies, and a special space to keep all their artwork and art displays. Thus, they need paint trays, fabric paint, binder, and laminating pouches and sheets.
Your generous donation of the requested materials will enable me to provide art projects that are purposeful and meaningful to them and their community.
Through learning about arts and getting hands-on by producing art work will increase cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Please don't let arts get into the wayside. Please help me incorporate and integrate arts across the curriculum so that my students can have a presence, a presence in its essence of arts.
