Appreciate Our Planet By Investigating Biogeochemical Cycles
My students need three different types of ecological science experimental kits to investigate and thoroughly understand the importance of biogeochemical cycles.

My Students
I am very fortunate to teach the students of this community. They are motivated, inquisitive and really enjoy collaborating when given a project. Over the past year, parents have generously donated towards my vision of introducing STEM based chemistry and biology labs involving amazing technology that is used to gather data.
The students appreciate the opportunity to use the STEM lab equipment because it allows them to use technology while collaborating and using critical thinking to produce results which help prepare them for the future.
My Project
The cycling of matter and energy throughout Earth's ecosystems is a new component of the Next Generation of Science Standards. Students need to understand biogeochemical cycles, how organisms obtain and use energy they need to live/grow, and finally how matter and energy move through ecosystems.
Using these three labs, students will construct explanations for the role of energy in the cycling of matter in organisms and ecosystems.
They will also apply mathematical concepts to develop evidence to support explanations of the interactions of photosynthesis and cellular respiration and develop models to communicate these explanations. A couple Incandescent light lamps are needed for the care of the Elodea plants included with cycling of matter lab.
The carbon cycling lab strengthens their awareness regarding the dangerous levels of carbon dioxide continually produced. All of these amazing projects are in line with the NGSS which enables students to become more informed of the conservative steps that should be taken to take better care of our planet.
