I have 28 wonderful students from an inner city area. The students are a large mix of special needs and bilingual students.
Many of the students have had some kind of trauma in their lives.
They have learning disabilities which include emotional disturbances, autism, as well as specific learning disabilities.
Most of the students come from low income families.
A lot of the students do not have the use of technology at home. In our classroom we only have it for 2 hours a week. In this age of high technology, first graders need to be able to have excess to the same to help them become college and career ready.
My students would really benefit from 2 iPads. They could use them with a number of different programs in our classroom. The iPads will help the students have extra time on the programs.
One program we use is called STmath which helps the student develop their math thinking stills.
We also use a few reading programs. one is Myon which has a wide variety of math and science books for the students to read on different levels. The other is also a reading program called Raz-Kids which also has many different types of books on different levels.
There are also a lot of different games that the students can go on and play, educational games because leaning can also be fun!
