My Project
The 3rd through 5th graders in our classes for students with Autism and related disabilities are working on a snack stand project. We are requesting materials to get our snack stand started like a cart, organizational items, and the snacks. Our students have worked hard this year practicing reading, writing, and math and now they deserve a fun project to get to review and use all that they have learned. If we can make these skills more meaningful to our students it will help them retain the material and work to continue growing.
Selling snacks gives our students a chance to practice communication skills, apply math skills, follow procedures for filling orders, and keep and maintain an organized inventory.
We have worked this year on these skills in isolation but we would love to give the students a chance to apply these skills meaningfully. We will be selling snacks to staff members at our school and then at the end of the project we want to give the students an opportunity to take the money they have earned to buy something. This will give them an opportunity to earn something after their hard work and see why they need money to fulfill their wants and needs.
