I teach at a Title I school. 80% of my students receive free meals. My students, high- school age, all perform at a third grade level or below. I teach special education.
My students have so many abilities that others are unable to see.
They can complete work tasks, find their way around the neighborhood, do their own laundry, and teach their peers how to properly wash dishes. They can choose a recipe, create a grocery list, go shopping, and prepare the meal. These students may not be performing on grade level, but they are ready for real life.
My students need two iPads to have easy access to the Internet in a way that is hands-on. Having two iPads in my classroom will allow my students to easily access the internet. A majority of my students have poor motor skills. They are unable to utilize our classroom computers because they can not hit the correct keys or properly move/click the mouse.
With the iPads, they can search for pictures, use voice recognition to write sentences, and practice their penmanship in a fun way.
They'll have an easier way to access job applications, maps, and apps that their typically developing peers use. The student's will finally be able to learn about technology in a way that is accessible to them.
