Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live in Washington, DC. Our students are African-American. They are limited in resources, with over 95% of them qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. They come from low-income neighborhoods in the Washington, DC area. Our public elementary school needs a variety of learning opportunities for quality engagement, challenge, and motivation in order to best function. We know supporting our students in this stage of their development can be the turning point for our students. SEL Social Emotional Learning plays a big part in education that empowers our students to believe in themselves and their ability to positively impact the world.

My Project

I am a 2nd grade intervention teacher who mainly teaches disadvantaged and English Language Learners who are highly motivated by hands-on experiences and active visual representations. These Apple products will provide to hybrid learning by giving students a workstation that is corresponding with the current and future technologies that we will use in the classroom daily. It is my intent to create centers, a corner in the classroom dedicated to different technologies and learning styles. The Apple iPads are just the start. Students will use these different learning corners through stations taught lessons where they rotate through each area of the classroom. They will work in classroom groups to complete blended learning lessons. Please support our technology center!
