Apple TV and Successful Students

My students need an Apple TV in order to collaborate as a whole group on scientific investigations, analysis papers, and practice problems in order gain a better understanding of the topics we are studying.

My Students

My students live in Las Vegas and often come from low socio-economic backgrounds. They are great kids, who have struggles that may hinder their performance in the classroom. They need to be engaged, see the value of education, and know that they have people who care about them.

My students are tech-y and hands on.

They get excited about using new technology, building things with their hands and having teachers help them learn in ways that make sense to them. My students have goals of being successful both inside and outside of the classroom.

My Project

We are requesting an Apple TV for our classroom. The Apple TV will be very beneficial with collaboration among the students and offer an improvement on classroom management. Currently, as the teacher, I am stuck at the front of the classroom in order to project and go over examples. Having the Apple TV in the classroom will allow me to project anything from my iPad, resulting in me being able to move about the classroom. The freedom to move about the room will minimize classroom distractions, keep students focused, and reduce disciple concerns so more work in occurring.

By projecting student work in real time, students will feel a sense of ownership and pride in their work, while providing the rest of the class with quality examples and opportunities for collaboration.

Currently in my class, students do not get to see other students' work. By walking about the room, and projecting students work, the kids who are on track will get immediate satisfaction as others see their work, and those that are struggling, can get their classmates opinions and constructive criticism, in an anonymous way.
