This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher in a low income school. I work with students that are about two years behind their peers academically. I work with approximately 5-8 students every 30 minutes on specific goals in math, reading, and/or writing. My assistant does the same. They struggle to retain information, take longer to learn information, or need different strategies in small groups to help them understand and apply information. Some of my students are second language learners. Sometimes my revolving door classroom seems chaotic, but students are happy, learning, and feeling successful.

My students work twice as hard learning concepts, and we celebrate twice as much when they reach and surpass academic goals.

These students have additional obstacles to learning. Focusing and staying engaged is a constant challenge that I try to mitigate. Given these challenges, I love working with these students. They are vibrant, enthusiastic, and willing young women and men that want to be successful. They give me all they have to give every day.

My Project

My students need iPads that can move with them to their seats or about the classroom to help them remain a part of a group. They will have opportunities to research endless topics from which to write essays. Some students will have iPads to snap pics of assignments and fill in answers when writing is difficult. Educational games will be more available to fill in free moments with even more learning, in enhanced ways, which excites them and helps create a more motivated classroom. Books will become more available online, opening up an endless library of possibilities.

Technology in the classroom is beneficial to students for all subjects and all interests and all levels of learning.
