This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all native speakers of Spanish because they come from Latino families. They are used to speaking Spanish, but they need to improve the vocabulary, sentence structure, and register they use for the AP Spanish test in May.

Our students attend a writing intensive school in the South Bronx.

They are hard-working, curious, and passionate about so many different things. Some of them have faced significant struggles even at their young age, but are still fervently determined to attend college and make their dreams come true.

My Project

I am requesting 15 microphone headsets. These headsets will make it possible for my AP Spanish students to record their voices in a program called Audacity that allows the recordings to be downloaded or emailed directly to me, their teacher. These headsets will enable my entire class to practice all at once and therefore give them more practice time overall. I believe that if the students have more opportunities to listen to themselves speak, it will be easier for them to make improvements necessary for the AP test.

This project is important because my students need AP test prep for the speaking part of the exam.

These headsets will allow them to record their voices and hear back what they have said. If I am able to get these headsets and use the Audacity voice recording software, I will be able to listen to my students' spoken compositions and critique them much more easily.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
