Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Advanced Placement English students are high school juniors, the majority of whom qualify as Economically Disadvantaged. They all have chosen to attend my early college high school in order to earn college credit and ideally graduate with an Associate's Degree.

Many of them are the children of first or second generation immigrants, or are immigrants themselves, and work part-time jobs to support their families and save for college.

My students take the AP Literature exam each May and could earn additional college credit.

My Project

This project will allow me to prepare my students for Question 3: The Open Question on the AP Literature Exam where they must write from memory about a novel or play in response to a prompt.

This play is short enough to be read out loud and discussed in class and then used to facilitate instructional activities, such as an in-class timed writing essay assignment based on this play.

Ms. Edson's play won the Pulitzer Prize and thus challenges students with the depth and complexity of an Advanced Placement English class and ample literary merit for the AP Literature exam.
