Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We live in an increasing complicated world, where money is usually chosen over our environment. The kids of today need to be our environmental ambassadors of the future. With dwindling resources, if we don't plan for future generations, our Natural Capital is at serious risk of being spent entirely.
This group of students are in the top 10% of their class and are serious candidates for some of the finest schools in the country.
They students come from socioeconomically challenged backgrounds from different parts of the inner city. The school they attend has over 2000 students and class sizes can be as large as 42. 90% are minorities and most are on federally subsidized lunch programs. For many of my students, school is a refuge from their home lives and it represents a structured place where they can begin to develop independent lives. However, these students have proven they can overcome numerous obstacles and realize that education is a key to their future.
My Project
My students need the basic laboratory testing equipment and a set of AP Environmental Science Daily Lesson Plans Binders, to start up a new Advanced Placement Environmental Science Course. The materials requested are absolutely necessary for laboratory and field studies in AP Environmental Science. By getting out into the field, students learn much more than from a book. With this field of science it is imperative to do get meaningful results from the field and then analyze them in the lab. In addition, the AP labs are mandatory, to be a sanctioned course by the AP College Board.
Having the necessary materials will make this course a success.
As the first year of a new Environmental Science Program, we will be establishing a base to grow in the future, with many more students taking an interest in our enviroment.
