I am starting a Saturday school called AP Elite for those of my students who are motivated and on track to gain college credit for AP Human Geography, a college-level course that they are taking in 9th grade!
As a Title I school, the majority of my students are low-income students of color, but that has not deterred many of them from dreaming of going to Ivy League schools such as Yale and MIT.
I am proud to teach such an amazing group of students!
I applied and have received a microgrant to obtain enough preparation books for my AP Elite students, however the grant was only enough for half of my students to get guides. I want to make sure that every single one of my students has the opportunity to gain college credit.
As low-income students with dreams of going to Tier I universities, my kids often do not have access to quality study materials or information about how college-level exams work.
Many other schools train their students on how to take an ACT, SAT, or CLEP test, and I want to start my students out right in 9th grade by providing them 1) a space for them to get extra help (in the form of AP Elite saturday schools) and 2) high quality materials for them to study outside of school and AP Elite.
