My students need 3 computers with internet access in order to complete classroom projects.

These days it seems like computers are an important part of our lives. Everywhere we look people have smart phones, laptops, ipads and the like. My students need reliable access to computers during the school day.
Growing up and going to school in our nation's capital my students are not expected or even always encouraged to go on to college.
The fact that they are showing up to school at all makes them the exception to the rule in DC. My students are being pushed everyday at our high school to always do their best and to go on to college. However we are lacking in many of the things that are considered to be necessities at high schools throughout the country. We currently have 2 functioning (sometimes) computer labs. One is used during the day for credit recovery, and the other is often not functioning. Each classroom has one desktop computer that students and teacher share. My students work hard with what we have but are often frustrated when they are unable to complete research assignments due to our lack of resources. They understand that we are not adequately preparing them for this part of college because we often do not assign research projects as they are very hard to pull off.
My project will bring 3 laptops into my classroom, giving my students 5 computers (our one desk top, plus my personal laptop) to complete work on. This will help my students learn research skills that will help them as they go on not only in college but in life. This will also allow students to type papers for my class, as well as other classes, give SPED students the use of a computer to take notes (an accommodation in many IEPs that I can not meet) and allow my seniors to research colleges and submit their applications. Students will also have the chance to learn basic computer skills such as typing, sending an email with an attachment, and finding reliable sources on the internet. These skills will be invaluable to students moving into their college careers and other post secondary options.
I feel that this project is so important because it will benefit not only the students currently in my classes, but also those to come in the next few years.
Students will be able to complete work not only for my class, but also for other classes (my homeroom will be able to use them during study halls).
