Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so privileged to work with so many incredible sophomores this year in my English classes. They are indeed a special bunch and are amazing in every way, as they are creative, innovative, and enthusiastic!
Like many students, the ones I work with face many challenges and work hard in spite of these difficulties.
Many come from low income households and some need support services for academic and/or emotional struggles. Despite these obstacles, they attend school regularly and are eager to learn.
My students know that through their active involvement in their education, they will be prepared for life after high school in college or in the workforce. These students realize how important it is to be proficient in mastering 21st century technology skills as they relate to reading, writing, and inquiry-based learning, and they deserve every opportunity to succeed. It is my hope to fuel their love of learning so they can be positive contributors to our society.
My Project
Having these five Chromebooks will make a marked difference in my students' lives both in and out of school because my students will have the opportunity to work on projects and activities anytime, anywhere. This will increase their engagement and make them excited to learn!
These Chromebooks will get used by students who need to borrow a device to do a variety of activities including: researching topics using the school's databases, composing paragraphs and essays, editing and revising on NoRedInk, analyzing non-fiction articles on Newsela, comparing and contrasting immigrant experiences through Hamilton the Musical Hyperdoc activities, taking virtual trips, and more!
I'm ecstatic for my students to create slideshows and present what they have learned to the class.
These devices will change how my students look at school and learning and will enable them to be better prepared for college and the workplace. This one project request while have far-reaching effects on my students and their bright futures.
