My Students

My students need more practice learning to improve their feelings for others. While they are usually kind and considerate, they often take for granted the education that they receive in America.

My sixth graders are energetic and willing to learn but often do not have the appropriate reading materials.

We attend an elementary school where we stress being helpful and kind to others. Sometimes it is helpful to look to the past to learn about the future.

My Project

I am requesting 24 copies of the book "Letters From Rifka" and 1 audio copy of the book. The book, Letters From Rifka, allows them to realize everyone is not as fortunate as they are. I want them to begin to understand how important an education is. It is necessary for them to learn to put themselves in another person's shoes. This book encourages them to empathize with a person their age. The main character has the guts and fortitude to keep trying and never lose sight of her goal. I'm hoping to instill this in my students.

Making sure that each student has a book to read and use as a resource will be invaluable to my class.

This is a book they will keep and treasure for a long time. It is one that they will read and reread! Please help my students become empathetic members of our community.
